How the calculation works

Fixed costs (rent, insurance, vehicle) are not included: gross margin is the sale price minus what the job directly costs you (materials, subcontractors, labour).

Frequently asked questions

What is a close rate?

It is the share of leads that become a signed job. To find yours, count how many of your last 20 to 30 leads signed. A lead called back quickly usually signs more often than one called back the next day.

How do I estimate my gross margin on a job?

Take the sale price before tax and remove what the job directly costs you: materials, subcontractors, labour. What remains, as a percentage of the price, is your gross margin. Do not remove your fixed costs.

What is the difference between gross margin and "left after ad spend"?

Gross margin is what signed jobs earn you before advertising. "Left after ad spend" is that margin minus your ad budget: what you really keep.

What is a good cost per lead?

There is no universal number: it depends on your trade, your area and your offer. What matters is comparing it to the margin on a signed job, which is what this calculator does.

Are my numbers stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent. The "Copy a link" button only puts your numbers in the page address so you can share it yourself.
